The bestselling Elan Ripstick 88 Skis undergo some design tweaks for the new season, with slightly reduced sidecut in all sizes aimed at making the ski more stable at speed and UD Carbon and Flax Fiber added to the layup. “Less hooky” and “more lively” are both good things for a ski that already was hugely popular as a frontside weapon among women in the know.

Rocker Type

Amphibio Profile / Asymmetrical Design– The Amphibio profile is a revolutionary ski design that integrates both rocker and camber profiles into dedicated left and right skis. Amphibio skis feature a cambered inside edge assuring precision, edge grip, and stability while a rockered outside edge provides forgiveness, turning ease and smooth transitions.

Core

Tubelite Wood Core– To create the TubeLite Wood Core, two super lightweight Carbon tubes are inserted into a lightweight laminated wood core. Measuring 5mm in diameter and hollow in their construction, these tubes run along the length of the ski following the arc of the side cut. They provide torsional stability and powerful rebound while allowing for material reduction of the core. The result is incredible lightweight response and stability.

Carbon Deck Technology– A construction using Elan’s TubeLite Woodcore, Carbon Rods, UD Carbon, and Flax Fiber in a carefully prescribed layup for a combination of power and versatility

Vapor Tip Inserts– Vapor Tip inserts are advanced composites that are integrated into the tip and tail area of the ski‘s core. These inserts reduce weight and vibration, dramatically improving stability and ensuring a smooth ride even in the most demanding conditions.

Fiberglass– Fiberglass reinforcement optimizes the ﬂex pattern and enhances torsional rigidity of the ski. The fibers are positioned either above or below the ski core and improve the ski’s structural integrity.

Carbon Rods– Lightweight Carbon tubes inserted intothe ski and run the length of the skifollowing the arc of the side cut. Thecarbon tubes provide torsional stabilityand powerful rebound while allowingfor material reduction of the core.The result is incredible lightweightresponse and stability.

We recommend a brake width equal to or at most 15 mm wider than the ski waist width.

Terrain: All-Mountain All-MountainAll-mountain skis are designed to handle anything you throw at them including powder, ice, groomers, steeps, heavy snow, and everything in between, but they aren’t necessarily a master of any one terrain. If you’re only going to own one ski to do it all, this is what you want. All-mountain skis generally have what we call mid-fat waists that range from 80-110 mm.

Intermediate to advanced skis and snowboards may be somewhat wider or stiffer than beginner-intermediate skis and snowboards, usually with a stronger wood core and sandwich sidewall construction. Intermediate to advanced boots and bindings range from softer flexing freestyle options to stiffer choices built for stability at speed.

Rocker Type: Rocker/Camber/Rocker Rocker/Camber/RockerRocker/Camber/Rocker skis have the playfulness and float of a rockered ski as well as the added edge hold of a cambered ski. The contact points on skis with this profile are closer towards the middle of the ski than a fully cambered ski, but still not underfoot. The cambered midsection provides a longer effective edge on hardpack, increasing edge hold and stability, while the rockered tip and tail provide floatation in deeper snow and allow the ski to initiate and release from turns easier.

Turning Radius: Short Short< 16 m radius is best for carving.

Tail Type: Flat FlatThis is your traditional tail, designed to have edge contact all the way through the tail, and only designed for skiing forward. This is also preferred for alpine touring, as you can stick the tails of your skis in the snow.
